Snow on Mount Etna
As a result of a winter trip to Sicily, Mooney painted a series of pictures of Mt. Etna covered in snow. In this series, the white peaks of the mountain fill the centre of the composition against a blue sky, often with ridges of rock, trees or a dash of red flame in the foreground. These paintings are notably calmer and unthreatening, very different from much of her other volcanic paintings.
