Still Life

Lemons, apples, peaches, geraniums and cacti flit through Carmel’s work at various periods. Feeling a need to bring more colour into her work, she produced the Sunflowers, Tuscany series. But, with a few rare exceptions, her colours are far from bright. She describes them as ‘harsh’, and explains that in treating them in this way she was pulling the painting back, keeping it from being ‘too nice’.
